 ISO metric Standard Electric Motors

image001.gif

90% of  the motors in use in industry are ISO standard motors

. Which means that many different brands of motor will fit in

the place of each other and perform in a similar way

This  ISO  standard motor is a Brook Crompton W series

electric motor which is very popular because of the quality,

efficiency, and the ability to mount the feet in any one of three

positions so that the terminal box can be positioned more

conveniently.

For all 3 phase, 1 phase, Hazardous Area (EXD), Dust Ignition

Proof (DIP)

Variable speed motors, brake motors, brakes and thrusters

Catalogues show all physical dimensions, weights, performance

at partial and full load

Special Motors

eimage012.jpg

ISO standard  motors are  available to suit the following

applications:

Flammable gases (EXD

Explosive dust (DIP)

Corrosive chemicals,( aluminium, cast iron or stainless , or

epoxy finish )

Wet environments, ( IP56 to IP67 hose proof to submersible)

Hot environments to  (250 deg C smoke spill duty)

Cold environments  to -40 degC

Frequently we take an iso standard motor, and modify the

shaft and flange s and mounting to  make them suitable for

your special applications. This one is for a cryogenic freezer,

has low temperature bearings, and an extended shaft

Rewind and Repair

eimage014.jpg

Common examples of motors we routinely rewind or repair

are ac servo motors, dc servo motors, AC 3 phase induction

motors, AC three phase variable speed, Schrage motors,

forklift drive motors, fork lift pump motors. Brake motors,

magnet coils, solenoid coils Special motors of every kind

Rewind Efficiency

The Electrical Apparatus Service Associations carried out

extensive testing on rewound electric motors over an eight

year period. They found that when the process is correctly

adhered to there is no deterioration in motor performance or

life.                                          eimage016.gif

Typical examples of our work

eimage018.jpg

DC Servo motor from CNC lathe  (Magnets Weak)

Came to us tripping over current protector

Tested on no load, found magnets weak

Confirmed with Flux meter when apart.

Make up charging coils, and fixture to suit this motor.

Charge the magnet coils, fit new bearings , skim ,undercut

and polish the commutator, assembly and test

Typical work example

eimage020.jpg

Three phase 7.5 kW 300 hz generator for woodworking

machine spindle power supply.

Disassembly, clean and check all parts, rewind the rotating

field, fit new brushes, and bearings, metalspray machine the

endshield bearing housing

Assembly and test on full resistive load

Rotating Winding guaranteed for 3 years,

Mechanical aspects guaranteed for 12 months

Motor stator surge tested to find weaknesses not yet apparent

at the working voltage, and so guarantee the winding for 12

months

Typical work example

eimage022.jpgBull 220kW 1725 rpm 360v DC motor

Disassembly, clean and check all parts Motor cooling had

been obstructed, overheated the motor , and melted the solder.

Rewind the armature. steam clean, oven dry, and varnish the

stator. Reassembly, check interpole relationship, series winding

polarity, and Brush neutral axis. Test No Load. Fit new

bearings to circulating fan motor , surge test winding ,

guarantee the winding for 12 months, test on load. Reinstall,

with 90 degree microtherm in cooling air outlet and commission.

Typical work example

Diosna Mixer 0.75 kW 230v single phase

Called to site, traced fault to damaged gears in housing,

(inadequate lubrication)

Disassembly, clean and check all parts, have new gears made,

Repair switch mechanism, fit new bearings and seals, assembly

and test, transport back to site, carry out commissioning tests.

All workmanship and materials guaranteed 12 months

Typical work example

Brook Crompton 156 kW  2850 RPM

eimage026.jpgCall out to site, soft starter tripping. test motor with surge

tester.

Found winding fault. Disconnect, and Remove from

machine, transport to workshop, disassembly, clean and

check all parts, Rewind the stator, source and modify cooling

impellor fan, fit anti condensation heaters into winding Fit

new bearings,  Reassembly, and test no load. Reinstall on site,

connect and commission.

Typical work example

Giordano Columbo 7.5 hp 380 v 18000/ 22000 rpm motor

CNC Router spindle motor Disassembly clean and check all

parts

eimage028.jpg

Surge test winding, Dynamically balance all rotating parts.

source, purchase and fit new bearings. Assembly and test no

load, Guarantee for 6 month against defects in materials or

workmanship . (same guarantee as Giordano)

Typical work example

350kg , 230v single phase Cable hoist, not liftingeimage030.jpg

Disassembly clean and inspect all parts, found  gearbox out of

lubricant, not significant wear on gears. Fit new seals and

bearings to the gearbox, fit new bearings to the motor ,

fit wire rope, and test 425kg lifting through 500 mm 10 times

up and down

Check travel limit switches, and manual crank switch,

Guarantee for 12 months on materials and workmanship,

and EASA  30 day warrantee on the winding. Fit compliance

tag.

Extra ordinary Work we have carried out

eimage032.jpg

Parvex Servo Motor,280/37Amps,2400 Rpm ,

Mod-LC640TFR0514,

Faulty encoder position, another company had serviced this

motor, and did not record accurately the encoder position on

the shaft. Have spare electronic drives coupled to act as power

supply with encoder feedback. Test encoder, and by elimination

find encoder position. Make up a test rig, and instructions so

that the test can be repeated at any future date easily.

Extra ordinary Work we have carried out

75 kW 985 RPM Brook motor.

Dough mixer drive  for Quality Bakers Auckland

Taking high amps on load, and tripping motor control.

Call out to site, check current on load., found to be excessive

Fit replacement other brand motor, and test on load,

kW consumed similar, but peak amps on the replacement

motor were less Does not trip the machine control

 eimage036.jpg

Test motor on no load in workshop, all results within Expected

guidelines Disassembly, clean and check all parts, including

special rotor and stator lamination testing. Found no fault.

Assemble and test motor on no load.

Transport motor to testing facility at ABB ,

Carry out full load testing , all results perfectly normal.

Mount this same motor back onto a second machine , different

only in the direction of rotation and the dough mixer arm design.

And test, all results normal.

Conclusion The design of the dough mixer hooks are different

enough

To add 20% in kW consumed

Our thanks to  ABB for their help especially to Peter.

Our recommendation was to run the one hook slightly slower

than the other. and so consume less kW.

Challenging sometimes , Sometimes Easy

 eimage038.jpg

2 kW 1400 rpm special Bean splitting machine

Motor was burnt out due to overload when we had it dropped

off to us for reconditioning.

We repaired the motor shaft, and drive end housing, coated

the housings in a two pot food grade epoxy coating

Rewound the stator, assembled and tested no load.

Within a couple of hours  our customer called us  indicating

that smoke eased out occasionally.

We promptly looked into it and found that the lack of water

flow  over the beans as they were split, caused them to stick

in the discharge chute, and so clog the machine., and overload it.

Our solution was to fit correct current protection equipment

on the motor supply for him, and recommend more water

flow.

Conclusion: We are experts in our own products, but not in the

processes or products our customers use. We need to work

together to solve these technical hiccups.
